In memory of Vernon Roote – by G. William Streeter

In my life, there have been very few people that when their first name was spoken everyone knew who you were talking about.

In any conversation about First Nation history and their people, when “Vernon” was mentioned, everyone knew the conversation would be about Vernon Roote.

For me, I saw Vernon as a “Builder of Bridges” both between communities and within his community. His was the voice of understanding, common sense, and caring for his fellow man. Doing what was right was always at the forefront of his thoughts.

Now is the time for us all to think about this great man and to consider what it is that we can do to leave a positive legacy when we pass.

Rest in Peace VERNON
