To the Editor,
Now that the dust has settled on the elections, let’s have some sobering thoughts.
In Saugeen Shores, the turnout was an abysmal 49.3%, but the only good news is that this was one of the highest turnouts in Bruce/Grey, with West Grey reporting 29.76% (Not all municipalities have published their stats).
Let’s think about this in Saugeen Shores. Across all levels – twenty excellent candidates put their names forward. They put their names on posters right across the municipality (with the cost coming out their own pockets). They attended multiple all-candidates meetings. They canvassed by knocking on our doors.
After all that, only one in two of us had enough respect to take less than two minutes to vote.
