Author Bob Johnston of Southampton, who is fresh off the success of his first novel, ‘Like a River Flows‘ – a first-hand account of Hurricane Hazel, has created ‘Sunset Musings – Reflections of a Senior’, a compilation of the author’s many writings over the years.
Johnston has drawn on his many years of experience as a minister, a family counsellor and a psychotherapist to create written vignettes laced with some spiritual content but primarily with his dry sense of wit and unique outlook on life.
Each vignette is a story in itself and, ‘Sunset Musings’ is the first book of what is to follow. It is told from the viewpoint of the ‘Spring’ of the author’s life when, as a young boy and then a man, he re-tells tales of his upbringing that many readers will relate to in their own memories.
Each short story has a taste of humour, a taste of life’s lessons and a taste of what it means to be human.
This first book has been an entirely local Bruce County endeavour beginning with the author, the publisher Brucedale Press of Port Elgin and the cover’s illustrator Ken Thornburn of Tara.
Johnston is already working on his next two compilations, ‘Summer’ and ‘Fall’, each carrying the reader through the different phases of life.
Orders for the book, signed by the author, are now being taken – with a portion of each sale to be donated to the Saugeen Shores Food Bank until May 20th. The cost is $20 until June 30th ($22 after June 30th).
