Brightshores Health System has received a remarkable donation totaling $1,153,836 from the Estate of Ruby Ferguson through the Owen Sound and Meaford Foundations.
The gifts are the culmination of a lifetime of financial support and volunteerism for our health care system. Specified in her last Will, the donation will help purchase medical equipment and improve hospital facilities.
“Brightshores is grateful to receive these funds to support the purchase of medical equipment. Donations such as that of Mrs. Ferguson help us to continue delivering quality care across our health care system,” said Gary Sims, President and CEO of Brightshores Health System.
The Fergusons have been active members of the community throughout their lifetime.
“Mrs. Ferguson’s thoughtfulness will put great tools into the hands of our nurses, physicians, and technical staff,” says Graham Fry, Site Manager at Brightshores Meaford. “It’s going to mean better care, close to home for our patients for years to come. What a great legacy to leave her community!”
Ruby was married to Elmer Ferguson for 65 years, with most of those spent living in Meaford. She worked as a Secretary at Meaford District High School and later at St. Vincent Elementary. Ruby also volunteered for the Meaford Hospital Auxiliary, helping with patient reception, Nevada ticket sales, and at the Midas Mart thrift store. She was named a lifetime member for 32 years of service between 1986 and 2008. Elmer was a Corporal with the Ontario Provincial Police, serving 20 years between Meaford (two postings) and Sebringville Detachments. After retiring from the OPP, he had several work interests including Real Estate, bus driver, security and Justice of the Peace. Elmer also volunteered on the Hospital Auxiliary and served on Municipal and Grey County Councils.
The legacy that the Fergusons created is one of better patient care.
