Local Irish dancer is off to the Worlds in Belfast

Local Irish dancer, Fiona Jagelewski, recently competed at the Canadian National Irish Dance Championships held last week (Oct. 17-19) in Calgary, Alberta.

Jagelewski placed 4th in Canada in the under-19 age group and has now qualified to go on to the Worlds to be held in Belfast in the Spring (2022).

Considered to be one of the most intricate dances in the world, Irish dancing took off in popularity when Riverdance exploded on to the stage more than 25 years ago. When a dancer is eager to learn and puts in the time and effort, it resonates in their stage presence and it is obvious that Jagelewski has done just that.

Starting out as a young dancer, she has worked tirelessly to perfect her skill and talent. Now at the University of Guelph, Jagelewski continues with her intensive dance training  two nights a week and also on weekends, in addition to maintaining her university studies.

As a young dancer, she often performed locally throughout the community and, with her dance colleagues, was particularly popular at St. Patrick’s day events.
