Local Lions roar into Lamont Sports Park with major donation

The Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign is pleased to confirm another major donation.  On April 9th, Port Elgin and District Lions Club President Tina Skomorowski presented a $75,000 cheque to Mayor Luke Charbonneau and Campaign Co-Chairs Mike Myatt and Rob Stanley at a meeting at Town Council Chambers.

The $75,000 donation will go towards the Phase 2 development of the park.  In return, the Port Elgin and District Lions Club receives lifetime naming rights to the park’s impressive sun shelter/gazebo.

The Lions Club “Diamond Donor” announcement is the third significant contribution to the fundraising campaign over the past month. That donation is the third of the nine available naming elements at the park. Campaign Co-Chair Stanley noted that the fundraising is proceeding extremely well. “The committee expects to make further major donation announcements over the next few weeks as the campaign focuses on making presentations to local businesses.”

Campaign Co-Chair Myatt thanked the Lions Club for their continued generosity. “This contribution to the park’s sun shelter is another example of the active role the Lions Club plays in Saugeen Shores,” said Myatt.  The Club was responsible for helping make the North Shore Park Splash Pad a reality and also recently donated $60,000 to replace playground equipment at Nodwell Park.  Myatt stressed, “We are so fortunate to have the Lions Club in our community.|”

Skomorowski thanked the members of the Lions Club who were on hand for the cheque presentation. “The motto of the Lions Club is We Serve, and Lamont Sports Park is a great opportunity for the Port Elgin Lions Club to once again serve and demonstrate our support for community initiatives that positively impact the lives of the citizens of Saugeen Shores.:
