It is with a deep sense of loss that the family of Louisa, announces her passing at Rockwood Terrace, Durham, on Wednesday December 30, 2020 at the age of 91.
The only child of Earl and Charlotte Patterson, Louisa grew up in Hamilton, ON. In 1950, she married Edward (Ed) Hyslop and they raised their children in Hamilton and later London, ON. Louisa was the devoted mother to Suzanne Pritchard of Kingston (James, d 2015), Carol Rondeau of London, Brian Hyslop (Jeanne) of Collingwood, and Bruce Hyslop (Sandra) of Whitby. She was the proud grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Ed and Louisa moved to Collingwood, ON. Where in 1970, they began a successful florist and greenhouse business. The family spent many happy summers at their Southampton cottage built in 1956. Upon retirement in 1977, they chose to reside full time in Southampton, transforming the cottage into their permanent home.
Louisa was loving, kind, thoughtful, and gracious. She offered much of herself through decades of volunteering to several Southampton charities/organizations such as 35 years with Grey Bruce Health Services – Southampton, Chantry Seniors Centre, Meals-on-Wheels, and Southampton United Church.
She led a full life doing what she loved, cooking, entertaining family and friends. One of Louisa’s much requested recipes, delicious scottish shortbread. Family members treasure her handwork: perfect knitting, beautiful rug hooking and needle point. Louisa and Ed travelled the world including many home exchanges and cruises.
Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation or to the Chantry Seniors Centre, Southampton.
The Hyslop family wishes to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Rockwood Terrace, Durham, for their care and compassion.
