The Rear Range light is a functioning historic range light working in conjunction with the Saugeen River Front Range light on the North Pier of Southampton Harbour.  The three Historic Light Stations are owned by the Town of Saugeen Shores and have been maintained by the Marine Heritage Society.

In cooperation with the Town of Saugeen Shores the work started in the spring of 2024 with the painting of thousands of cedar shingles in preparation of this restoration. It took 342 hours by dedicated Society volunteers to coat both sides of the shingles.

On September 16th, the volunteers started under the guidance of Scott Good of Good Impressions to remove the old damaged cedar shingles to uncover more damaged wood than was visible from inside. This will extend the project by a few days in order to replace the damaged wood.

The Society is very fortunate to have the local community’s support with financial donations for many aspects of the project including equipment and expertise. The Front Range light, for example, was restored in 2022 through generous donations by many businesses and individuals.
