Every four years, the Canada Summer Games are held to identify talent for the next Olympics. The Games were cancelled last year due to Covid but are scheduled for Thorold, Ontario in August of this year.
The Ontario version of the Canada Summer Games Trials were held in Toronto last weekend, July 2-3, to select the Ontario Track and Field team. Athletes must win their event to be guaranteed a spot on the team.
Billie Martin led the way for our STFC athletes when she dropped a bomb of 57.27m in the 3rd round to finish second in the Women’s Hammer.
Martin is currently ranked 2nd in Canada (57.46m) in the U23 Women’s Hammer.
The only woman in front of her also is from Ontario and won the Trials. Martin is waiting to see if she will be an additional selection to the team.
Also competing well in hammer were Avery Hastings (44.79m, PB, 4th) and Harley Martin (43.07m, 6th). Avery also threw 37.74m in the Women’s Discus to finish 7th in a stacked field.
