On December 4th Southampton Rotary held their AGM at Rotary Hall where the Board of Directors for the Rotary year 2025/26 were acclaimed and the Club’s financial statement for 2023/24 was reviewed.

In July, members had a fun time as they kicked off the new Rotary year at the change over dinner where the gavel was passed from Past President Dave Bertrand to incoming President Tony Sheard.

Members said farewell to Rotary exchange student Rei Kaneda, who returned home to Japan and also to their outbound student MJ Klunder who will be spending a year in Thailand. Rotarians were thrilled to be able to welcome and host their inbound exchange student, Lena Storath, from Germany.
The Club Members enjoyed a PowerPoint presentation showing their many projects during the Rotary year from July 2023 to June 2024 and also for the last six months. You will see below that they have been very busy and are truly people of action who help make the world a better place, or as a certain President likes to say “Do-goodery”!
Since July 1st 2024 Southampton Rotary Club Members have:
- Popped popcorn on July 1st at the flag as the “Bucket Brigade” collected $4,920 in donations and presented it for next year’s fireworks to the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce.
- Held a BBQ at Tim Horton’s in support of Tim Horton’s Camps for kids.
- Accommodated the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps at Rotary Hall when they could not pursue their outdoor program due to weather
- Welcomed the local Scout group to use the Hall on Thursday evenings.
- Organized a Family Fun Day at Jubilee Park as part of the Town’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
- Produced a 25th Quiz and took part in the 25th anniversary Parade of Champions
- Sponsored the Sunset Piper, with popcorn, at the flag.
- Helped with the migrant workers BBQ at St. Paul’s Anglican Church
- Served a pancake breakfast at the Marine Heritage Festival, popped popcorn and entered a boat in the cardboard boat race.
- Donated to Saugeen First Nation’s Youth and Caregiver program, the Aaron Roote Memorial Youth Conference and the Landing Success program.
- Visited all Grade 3 classes at local schools to give a dictionary to each student for a total of 229 dictionaries.
- Supported the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation by providing Smart Servers to run the bar after the Gran Fondo.
- Made a pledge to the new Aquatic and Wellness centre of $50,000 over 5 years.
- Installed and removed “No Parking” signs at Pumpkin Fest and popped more popcorn
- Celebrated birthdays of Southampton Care Home residents by providing corsages and boutonieres.
- Ran a BBQ for Port Elgin Saugeen Central School at “Meet the Teacher” event and donated $1,500 to the school’s new playground fund.
- “Spring cleaned” Perkins Park and added a new interpretive sign about the Peace Pole.
- Sponsored student musicians at the Big Band Celebration to interact with the professional Bands.
- Completed the $40,170 USD Rotary International Global Grant in partnership with Hand Up (a group of other Rotary Clubs) to provide rain water harvesters in Guatemala.
- Paid for new furniture for one of the Salvation Army Food Bank’s meeting rooms.
- Equipped Victim Services with a “Life Saver” bracelet to be able to track a vulnerable person who may wander off.
- With the help of a Rotary District Grant, provided funding for G.C. Huston School musical instruments; four new “high rise” toilets at the Chantry Centre; an accessible beach chair for Southampton beach.
- Took part in the Cham-bettes Sharecrow food drive with a display at Perkins Park.
- Requested used musical instruments and received over 100; arranging for them to be repaired and cleaned, to be donated to local schools’ music programs.
- Held the 21st annual Dinner Auction and raised $63,000, including $29,000 for new musical instruments for local schools’ music programs .
- Donated $2,000 to Rotary International’s Polio Plus Fund to help eradicate polio.
- Donated $3,000 to Shelter Box for proactive disaster relief.
- With other local Rotary Clubs and Saugeen Shores Police, organized Shop with a Cop at Independent Grocers and donated the food to the Port Elgin Salvation Army and Saugeen First Nation’s Food Banks.
- Made a contribution to Grey Bruce Dragon Boat Club for Bernie’s Boat to support breast cancer survivors.
- Gave scholarships to G.C. Huston and SDSS students.
- Contributed to the Legion’s Poppy Fund and laid wreaths in Southampton; provided a wreath for the SDSS Interact Club (for students aged 12 to 18) at Port Elgin Cenotaph.
- Bought 16 backpacks for the Bruce Grey United Way to distribute to students.
- Presented a cheque for $250 to the Queen’s Bar & Grill for the Christmas Eve dinners.
- Listened to speakers from Victim Services, VON, Bruce Grey United Way, Salvation Army Food Bank and Rotary District 6330 Governor; attended the Anti-Human Trafficking information night hosted by Faith Lutheran Church in Port Elgin
- Installed the Christmas decorations and lights at Perkins Park.
- Continued to offer advertising space on the Southampton Rotary community boards for not-for-profit organizations.
- Maintained Rotary Hall and cleaned out storage areas.
- Launched the 1938 coffee and coffee mugs in partnership with Dizzy Bird at Sparkles night, with more popcorn!
- Participated in the Christmas parades and collected socks for the United Way; more popcorn
- Held social events including coffee mornings, an evening at the President’s home with drinks and appetizers, celebrated the exchange student’s birthday at a local restaurant; hosted Chantry Centre seniors for dinner.
Southampton Rotarians are currently selling Dinner of the Month draw tickets – $25 for one and $100 for 5 with 12 chances to win either a $250 or $100 gift certificates for a local restaurant. The Club supports these local businesses by purchasing the gift certificates for the prizes. Proceeds will go to their Rotary causes. Here’s what they will be up to during the winter months.
- Serving hot chocolate at the New Year’s Day Polar Plunge at the flag
- Organizing Winterama together with Port Elgin and Tara Rotary Clubs, which takes place during the month of February
