The official sod-turning took place on Thursday, September 13th, with the Mayor, Police Chief, Police Services Board members and town staff in attendance.

Mayor Mike Smith pointed out that Saugeen Shores is the fastest growing community in Bruce and Grey Counties.  “The community is growing rapidly and, therefore, so are the needs of the community and, with that, we need a modern police service to deal with the issues that growth will bring.  It’s been on our radar for a number of years with a number of chiefs and they all worked hard to get us to this point.”

Police Chief Mike Bellai agreed with the Mayor that Saugeen Shores is the fastest growing community and, therefore, facilities are needed to meet the demand that will be on-going.

Police Services Board Chair Luke Charbonneau also said that the new building was part of the overall goal for the town.  “We need facilities to enable us (the police) to be effective for the community.  We are very excited to see our police moving into the new facility next year.”
