Northport Senior Band are getting ready to head off to the National music competitions to be held in Ottawa May 15th – 17th.
The Band has achieved several gold standings in the past, including in Collingwood and the Kiwanis Music Festival in Walkerton, and they are now set to compete for gold again at the Nationals.
Conductor-teacher, Andrea Rideout, points out to the students that they have to be ready to perform a piece through sight-reading as a ‘response’ to an Adjudicator who will conduct them.
According to Principal Suzanne Kennedy, the trip to Nationals can be expensive given the entry fees, travel and accommodation. “We have been raising funds through chocolate sales, the sale of poinsettias at Christmas and other activities,” she said. Kennedy presented a cheque on Wednesday, May 1st on behalf of the School Community Council (SCC) to Conductor Andrea Rideout for $1,000 to help out with expenses.
