In a media release, the Town of Saugeen Shores says that, effective today, September 18th (2026), the area known as the ‘Police Parkette’ in Port Elgin, will be temporarily closed.
According to a Saugeen Shores Town release the Parkette, located between Emma and Catherine Street on Goderich Street in Port Elgin, adjacent to the Service Ontario outlet and the Chamber of Commerce offices, is being closed so that the Town can undertake necessary repairs, maintenance and improvements.
During the summer, the area was the site of a tent encampment of unhoused people waging a ‘peaceful protest’ citing the lack of affordable and attainable housing.

The length of the Police Parkette closure located at 553 Goderich Street in Port Elgin is unknown as the town considers further improvements through the 2027 Business Plan process.
