Op-ed: A timely reminder to take action as winter storms continue

Thanks to Port Elgin resident, Patricia Corrigan-Frank for a timely reminder in these unusual winter storm days.  Actually, when talking with those born and raised in Bruce County, this is what winters always looked like in the past.

However, as the snow continues, “… remember to clear any snow from the furnace vents and gas regulators outside your home. Ensuring these are free from snow is crucial for safety. Blocked venting can effect your heating appliances, also the deadly risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Check that your smoke and CO detectors are working properly, replacing the batteries is cheaper then losing lives. Carbon monoxide is a silent and odourless deadly killer.

Offer to help those who may not be able to clear their own. It’s also a good time to give a reminder to check your local street fire hydrant to ensure its clear of snow. We all have a part in saving lives.”
