Pacific to Atlantic – but little fanfare for cyclists who crossed Canada

Cyclists Shannon and Marco Baillon made it!

It was a long haul but the retired couple cycled across Canada beginning in Victoria at the Pacific Ocean and, at the end, tipped their bicycles in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean in Halifax.

The couple documented their journey live as they travelled across the country staying in campgrounds and, whenever possible with family, including a stay in Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores) with Shannon’s parents.

Along the route, the couple showed the various campsites, rest stops, cycle lanes … and the lack of all in each province.  From camping in a rock quarry with no amenities to staying in 54 ‘pup tent’ sites, in high winds and rain, the couple weathered through a variety of stay-overs – averaging $60 per night.

After 79 days (one day less than their estimation), 7,847 km, 44,000 metres of assent, 414 hours on the bike actually moving, 13 rest days (one per week) and nine provinces, the couple reached their destination – the Atlantic Ocean.
