Unfortunately, Saugeen Shores will again be without its popular S.S. Trolley tourism attraction for the 2022 season.
After a thorough review, the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce (SSCC) has announced that the Trolley will not operate again this summer.
SSCC President, Michelle Kay-Scott says that, “While this is disappointing for the SSCC and some members of the community, we will continue exploring options that could see the SS Trolley return to service. There have been a lot of changes in policies, operational costs and partnership resources following the pandemic. These are logistics that need to be addressed before the S.S. Trolley can return. We have a great committee that will continue working on possible solutions.”
The S.S. Trolley in previous years made leisurely daily tours between Port Elgin and Southampton along the scenic Lake Huron shoreline. Riders had the opportunity to explore stops along the route that featured beautiful scenes, downtown shops and other significant locations in Saugeen Shores.
Taralyn Golbeck, Director of Business Development & Communications at the SSCC, supports the Board’s decision, adding that, “Many businesses and organizations are still figuring out how to return to normal after the disruptions experienced during the pandemic. This decision will allow the SSCC to take their time figuring out the best course of action for the S.S. Trolley, the Chamber and our community.”
The SSCC encourages residents and visitors to still explore the Shores by supporting local businesses and events this summer.
