Huron-Bruce Incumbent Lisa Thompson wins big in election

While there were eight candidates running in Huron-Bruce, incumbent Conservative Lisa Thompson was by far the front runner.

She came in with a solid 52 per cent of the vote and is heading back to represent Huron-Bruce for her fourth term at Queen’s Park in what is another majority government for Ontario.

First elected in 2011, Thompson has held several positions in the Ford Government, including her most recent as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, for which she is well-suited having worked as General Manager of the Ontario Dairy Goat Cooperative.  Born and raised in Huron County, Thompson now lives on a farm that has been in her husband’s family for 120 years near Teeswater in Bruce County.

She has also held portfolios that included Minister of Education and Minister of Government and Consumer Services.

She and her supporters gathered at the Wingham Golf Club to watch as the election results came in.  “I am honoured and humbled to represent the riding of Huron-Bruce since 2011. We have a strong team and we’re all ready to go!”

In a previous release, Thompson said that she was “… as revved up as I was for the very first campaign.”

In addition to her parliamentary roles, Thompson has also represented Ontario as Chair for Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians—Canada Region.

As Huron-Bruce MPP, Thompson will be heading out on the day following the election by attending the Clinton Spring Fair opening.

Eight candidates put their names forward for election in the Huron-Bruce riding with low results for each.

According to election results, the overall turn-out was low with only 43 per cent of eligible voters province-wide participating.
