Port Elgin Legion Branch 340: Supporting Veterans through the Poppy fund

Once again, the Royal Canadian Legion 2025 ‘Poppy drive’ is underway.  The poppy is a symbol of remembrance and sacrifice, first adopted by The Royal Canadian Legion in 1921.

The annual campaign by The Royal Canadian Legion raises money for Veterans and their families through donations during the period leading up to November 11th. While poppies are distributed freely, the Legion welcomes donations that are used to fund local and national programs and services for service members and their families. Funds raised are strictly controlled and managed by the Legion’s Poppy Trust Fund at local, provincial, and national levels.

The campaign is organized and run by volunteers at The Royal Canadian Legion’s local branches across Canada.  The Volunteers distribute poppies to the public, who are encouraged to make a donation.

The funds help provide support to Veterans, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and their families.  Support can include assistance programs and other essential servicse and funds raised at a local level typically support local veterans and their families.

On November 11th at 11:00 a.m., crowds will gather at the various Cenotaphs to honour those who fought and died to preserve freedom, including in Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores).
