In May, an alligator was spotted in the Port Elgin town pond adjacent to the Fish Hatchery operated by the Lake Huron Fishing Club (LHFC).
Was it real? No … but supposedly, to fish-eating birds, it appeared to be and was used as a deterrent.
” The pond is annually filled with hatchlings that grow so that children can experience fishing along with catch-and-release,” says Lake Huron Fishing Club Treasurer Dave Myette.
Unfortunately, some nefarious people went to great lengths to remove the head of the decoy alligator.
Recently however, thanks to a generous donation from the Power Workers Union (PWU) the alligator has a new head and is once again busy fending off fish-eating birds.
Hopefully, the same nefarious people are long gone.
