Rotary District Governor visits Southampton Rotary

On July 31st, Southampton Rotary Club had the honour of hosting Katherine Hahn, Rotary 6330 District Governor, for a visit that highlighted the club’s significant community contributions.

Club President Tony Sheard, a Past District Governor himself, led Hahn on a tour of key Rotary-supported projects throughout Southampton. The tour showcased the club’s diverse impact, including:

– The Peace Pole at Perkins Park, symbolizing the club’s commitment to international understanding.
– Accessibility-enhancing Mobi Mats on the waterfront.
– The Captain Spence Trail Bridge, improving local infrastructure.
– GC Huston Public School Playground Project, investing in youth development.
– Jubilee Park Playground and Splashpad, creating family-friendly community spaces.
– The Fairy Lake Pavilion, providing a space for performing arts.
– Southampton Hospital, underscoring Rotary’s long-standing support for local healthcare.
– Rotary Hall, home to the Scouts, demonstrating ongoing youth engagement.

The day culminated in a dinner at Rotary Hall, featuring a sumptuous prime rib meal catered by the Elk and Finch. Governor Hahn delivered an inspiring keynote address, sharing her personal Rotary journey and emphasizing the transformative power of Rotary’s work both locally and globally through the Rotary Foundation and the “Magic of Rotary.” As part of Hahn’s introduction, Area Governor and part-time illusionist, Colin Macdonald, performed a disappearing handkerchief trick.

The club also took this opportunity to welcome and induct a new member, Alex Pister.

“Governor Katherine’s visit not only recognized our club’s efforts but also reinvigorated our commitment to service,” said President Sheard. “Her insights on infusing ‘magic’ into our community initiatives have sparked fresh ideas for future projects.”

This visit underscores Southampton Rotary’s ongoing dedication to community support and global understanding, exemplifying Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
