Saugeen Shores community gathers for fundraiser at Walk for Alzheimer’s

Every year, a family can be touched by dementia or Alzheimer’s. While it is often thought of as an ‘old’ person’s disease, it has been proven that is not the case as it can also strike those who are in their middle years.

Losing someone into the abyss of what becomes complete memory loss is painful for the family as they see their loved one lose recognition of those they once held dear.

On Saturday, May 25th, despite a cool start to the day, many family members gathered at Fairy Lake in Southampton for the annual Walk for Memories, a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s.

Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau welcomed everyone to the event, while also thanking the many volunteers for making the event possible.

Hosted by IG Wealth Management across Canada, the company and its consultants have raised more than $41 million over the years.  This year, in Grey Bruce $50,000 has been raised to date with more on-line pledges coming in.

The Walk is Grey-Bruce’s biggest fundraiser for local families living with dementia. This year, more than 1,000 families will be impacted by dimentia/Alzheimer’s in Grey Bruce. The Alzheimer’s Society of Grey-Bruce helps families each year who are looking for information, connection, and support.

The Alzheimer’s site remains open until June 14th for those wanting to donate.
