Saugeen Shores Councilor resigns to take position as Town Director of Community Services

Port Elgin Ward Councillor, Kristan Shrider, officially tendered her resignation as Saugeen Shores Town Councillor on January 21st (2022) and will assume the position of Director of Community Services and Operations recently vacated by Director Jayne Jagelewski.

In the last municipal election (2018), Shrider, who lives in Southampton and worked in Owen Sound at the time, was elected Port Elgin Ward Councillor.

During the campaign she said that, “I believe one of the biggest challenges that we face is to keep growth and development at a manageable rate. We need to ensure that our services and assets are able to keep up with the rate of development. Council and staff need ensure that our asset management program is on target for not only our current needs but also for the future demands that growth and development will require.”

During the recent recruitment process, 31 applications were received with each having to go through an interview, provide a written submission, undergo a participation and  behavioural assessment and provide references.

Shrider formerly worked for the Town of Saugeen Shores from 2001 to 2015 before taking the position of Senior Manager of Property, Parks and Open Spaces with the City of Owen Sound and, most recently as Senior Manager of Corporate and Facility Services.

According to Saugeen Shores CAO, Kara Van Myall, Shrider’s breadth of knowledge will be an asset to the Town of Saugeen Shores.  “She is joining the town at a pivotal moment in supporting the re-aligned Community Services and Operations Department.  Her local knowledge, experience and passion will be a great addition to the Town with its future- ready vision.  Careful consideration was given to finding the right fit for this new role and I couldn’t think of a better individual to lead the new Community Services and Operations Department.”
