“Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.” … Terry Fox
With two weeks to go before the 45th Annual Terry Fox fundraiser on September 14th, local residents of Saugeen Shores are getting ready to tie up their shoes and head out to raise money for cancer research. Whether you are walking or running, riding a bike, roller blading, or pushing a scooter, everyone is welcome!
Register on the day of the event, or online now at terryfox.org
DETAILS: Meet at the Lions’ Pavilion at Northshore Park in Port Elgin
12:00- 1 pm : register (or if you registered online, please check in!)
1Pm: Opening ceremonies and start of event …
2k, 5k or 10K – you decide!
From the starting line banner, Dr. Dave Glass will pipe everyone on their way along the paved scenic trail overlooking Lake Huron north to Southampton. For those going 5k, the halfway mark is north of the 10th Concession and, for those going the full 10k, the halfway mark is just south of Bay Street. Marshalls will be along the course.
Once again, Holly Vanderzwet of Fitness Corner South is providing the post-event snacks, so plan to stay for a bit afterward to mingle and meet with friends.
Don’t forget to bring your cameras. This year, you can once again have a photo taken beside the life-sized poster of Terry Fox! Additionally this year, there will also be a KID ZONE with colouring sheets and water-based tattoos.
Adult t-shirts will be for sale (cash only!) at the run for $30 each and vintage shirts will be on sale for $10. T-shirts for youth and other merchandise is available at “shop.terryfox.org “
Last year the community of Saugeen Shores, together with our schools raised a huge record $46,000 for cancer research with over 500 residents from Saugeen Shores pitching in to help by volunteering, pledging or participating in the Terry Fox Run.
Let’s welcome back Dana Fox as our Terry’s Team member, along with Head coach Jordan Collison, a Southampton native, and his cross-country team from the University of Windsor!
Joining us this year as well, will be members of Bernie’s Boat, the team of local breast cancer survivors, who have spent the summer paddling on the Saugeen River.
If you are a cancer survivor, please join us for the Terry Fox Run so we can all celebrate you! (The day you are diagnosed is the day you become a survivor!) Don’t forget your RED SHIRT!
Prove that Terry Fox’s legacy is more than just a run.
EVERYONE is welcome…all ages, all abilities!
