Saugeen Shores tally is in for First Responders annual Food and Toy Drive

The final number to date (Dec. 11th 2023) is in for the First Responders annual Food and Toy Drive 2023 and, once again, residents of Saugeen Shores have shown their generosity along with Responders who donate their time.

Not taking into account the myriad of toys that were donated, there were 3,771 lbs. of food, hygiene products, baby and household items weighed and documented.

In addition, $6,613.75 in cash was donated.  Most was in actual money in the Salvation Army kettles while a portion was also through the tap-and-go system with debit and credit cards.

“With the thousands of pounds of food donated, we thought it would take a week to sort,” said Food Bank Director, Nikki Thompson, “but again, it’s all about our wonderful volunteers who came in as a team and everything was sorted in a day!”

“The generosity of this community is hard to believe,” added Thompson.  “So many people will be helped and, when you think about the toys donated, so many children will have a happy Christmas morning.”
