WOW!!!!
On behalf of the Saugeen Shores U18B Girls, proudly sponsored by the Port Elgin Lions Club, I would like to thank all who helped to make this year’s “Mission of Kindness” a tremendous success. This mission began three years ago with Diane and Ashley Shields spearheading a team collection of pyjamas with the 2021-2022 U18B girls’ team in support of The Women’s Centre of Grey Bruce. Because all of those players have graduated from minor hockey, we felt it was important to continue on with their outreach.

The response we received within our hockey community and community at large was overwhelming. Heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed in someway to the success of our collection. The Women’s Centre is beyond grateful for our donations of pyjamas and essential household items we purchased to assist women when leaving the Centre.
A special thank you, to Mike and Eleanor Mowbray at Canadian Tire, Port Elgin. We truly appreciate and value their continued support.

In addition to their personal donation of 20 laundry baskets, 20 totes and 60 pairs of mitts, we really appreciated the significant store discount we were given to help purchase “wish list items” for the Centre.

Our goal was to collect 500 pairs of pyjamas over five weeks at our last six home games of 2023.
WE DID IT!!!! 588 pairs of pyjamas and $500 for purchasing wish list items was the grand total of our team collection!
We would like to acknowledge the following girls hockey teams for going above and beyond in support of our initiative.

A special mention goes out to our Saugeen Shores Storm U15LL#1 on our OMHA side of the Association, proudly sponsored by Maples Shores Health Centre. This team, parents, coaches and sponsor felt it was important to help the girls with supporting The Women’s Centre. Job well done boys!
We would also like to extend our gratitude and thanks to Good Things, in Port Elgin and Carter’s in Owen Sound.
An extra special thank you goes out to Diane Shields. Thank you for your unwavering support, your leadership and for always doing things humbly and for the greater good. I truly hope to keep your legacy alive.
Thanks again to all who supported these girls, in all ways possible. Talk about teamwork!
