Southampton highway construction about to begin

A major resurfacing project along Highway 21, spanning approximately 5.5 km from just north of South Street to just south of Craig Street in Southampton is about to begin.

The project is part of the Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Link Program that has provided funding for a series of rehabilitation activities that include:

  • Asphalt resurfacing along Railway Street, Albert Street South, and North Rankin Street
  • Upgrades to water distribution infrastructure
  • Maintenance of existing storm cross culverts within the project limits

Dependent on weather and ground conditions, it is anticipated that the project will begin near the end of March with construction taking place Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A Pre-Construction Open House is be held on March 17th at Southampton Town Hall from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to provide the public with an opportunity to meet the contractor, Walkerton Construction, and review the project plans.
