Once again, Saugeen Shores Special Olympics athletes are off to compete for medals in the National Summer games after qualifying in the Provincials.

The three athletes April Virtue, Carley Underwood and Ray Tomlinson have again demonstrated their expertise in Bocci Ball and, after qualifying in the Provincials, are off to Medicine Hat, Alberta in August to compete against athletes from across Canada in the Nationals.

On Friday, May 15th, however, Special Olympics received a special helping hand from Southampton Legion Branch 155 when they were given a $5,000 donation to help with travel expenses.
“We are only too happy to help these young athletes achieve their goals,” said Legion Branch President, Ralph Lynch. “This contribution reflects the Legion’s long-standing commitment to service—not only to veterans and their families, but also to the broader community.”
“This is an incredible donation,” said coach Cheryl Smethurst. “This will really help the athletes out as they depend on fundraising to participate in these sporting events.”
