Southampton Library receives legacy donation

The Bruce County Public Library is pleased to announce that it has received a $5,000 donation in memory of Betty McCulloch.

The donation has been given by the McCulloch family to the Southampton Branch and will be used to improve the children’s area.

“This generous contribution will carry Betty’s legacy of learning and literacy forward, significantly enhancing the children’s area of the Southampton Branch to be enjoyed for years to come,” says Library Director Brooke McLean.

Betty McCulloch (1930-2018) was a well-respected and much-loved teacher and educator in Bruce County, becoming the first woman to hold the post of principal. She spent many years at GC Huston Public School in Southampton, advocating for the students and developing a special education program which was used throughout Bruce County. An avid reader and champion of children’s access to books and reading, Betty was an amazing role model for all who met her.

She achieved her BA and MA in Education while raising six children and volunteered in many local organizations – Women’s Institute, Historical Society, Southampton Hospital Auxiliary among others – often as president.

The Bruce County Public Library thanks the McCulloch family for this generous donation in Betty’s memory.
