Southampton residents to hold protest over loss of wetland

Residents of Southampton are planning a peaceful protest tomorrow, Saturday May 18th, in the hopes that it will draw attention to the possible loss of the last significant woodland/wetland in Southampton to development.

There have been letters to the editor, public meetings and delegations to Council in opposition to the development of the land that has been designated Environmentally Protected (EP).

Organizers are hoping that the protest, “Circle the Woodland“, will draw enough people to do just that … circle the area in question at Bay, Albert and Huron Streets from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A drone will also fly overhead to record the attendance which will then be available to Town Council prior to its Planning meeting on May 21st, where a decision is to be made over whether or not the land will be made available for residential housing development.
