The Bruce County Bookmobile is taking to the road after it was officially launched on Saturday, October 21st (2023) at Port Elgin Public library.
The launch party, that included a tour of the bookmobile, was also a fun-filled day with costumes, face-painting, popcorn and the special arrival of Ariel.

The bookmobile had been out and about for two weeks prior to the launch, testing out the routes and the reaction of the communities where it stopped. “It’s been really well received,” said driver Alyssa Magilsen, who takes turns with driver Mike Englehardt.

Englehardt also added that residents in senior retirement homes seemed very enthusiastic. “It’s difficult for many of them to get out and about to visit a library and, particularly, when many of them no longer drive. We also have a wheelchair lift for accessibility.”
The Bookmobile is filled with books for all ages along with DVDs and readers can also order books that will be brought to them and then picked up at the next visit of the mobile library. The library on wheels is also outfitted as a WiFi hub with wireless printing available.
You can visit the Library website for a route calendar showing the locations that were carefully chosen to ensure maximum outreach to neighbourhoods with limited access to traditional Library services.
It is thanks to several donors that made the library on wheels a reality.
