Today, July 26th, Southampton gets ready to start its marine heritage weekend, a free family fun time.
The three day event hosted by the Marine Heritage Society kicks off tonight with the Summer Jazz Gala at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
The evening begins at 4:00 p.m. with Jazz in the theatre and no need to go home for dinner as the Captain Sparrow BBQ and Cornroast prepared by the Rotary Club of Saugeen Shores starts at 5:00 p.m. followed by the weekend Opening Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and there’s a cash bar.
For the younger set, there is the annual Martin’s Kids’ Bike Festival at Fairy Lake adjacent to the Museum with prizes galore and registration from 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Then, it’s time for the Ghost Walk around Fairy Lake hosted by the Bruce County Playhouse. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. at the Museum before heading out to Fairy Lake where you never know what or where ghostly creatures await.
All of the evening events lead into a weekend of family fun and activities beginning early Saturday morning with the Rotary Pancake breakfast, entertainment in Pioneer Park, the Lions’ BBQ lunch, the popular Cardboard boat races … and much more.
Expect a long line-up as the Saugeen Shores Firefighters once again host the popular Fish Fry supper and then the fun continues as Three Sheets Brewery and the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks host the Sunset Beach Party with entertainment by the popular Sofa Kings from 8:00 p.m. to 11 p.m.
New this year are the free shuttle buses and bike valet parking due to limited parking. The shuttle buses will run from the Chantry Centre on Grey Street and the Bruce County Museum.
