Vaccine to arrive in Grey Bruce by month’s end

In a telephone interview today (Jan. 8/21), Dr. Ian Arra, Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, confirmed that the Pfizer vaccine will be coming to Grey-Bruce by the end of this month.

A proposal had been sent earlier to the Provincial Government and the attention of General Hillier who is heading up the logistics for distribution.  The proposal pointed out that Grey Bruce would be a logical logistic hub pilot for vaccine delivery in small-urban and rural communities, as it is representative of the majority of communities in Ontario.

The proposal outlined the unique resources that are available in Grey-Bruce such as state-of-the-art security services conducted and coordinated by Bruce Power, in addition to resources for the two Recovery Centres (field hospitals) that are being converted to Mass Immunization Hubs equipped with ultra-low temperature vaccine freezers and accessories.

Although a firm date and number of doses have not been disclosed, the two vaccination centres will be the Owen Sound Health Unit and the Kincardine Davidson Centre, with a third considered if needed.
