Virtual Earth Week program for students offered by Bruce Power and Bruce Museum

Bruce Power is excited to partner once again with the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre to offer a virtual Earth Week program for students.

The eco-themed program will include two video presentations with a focus on species at risk, their impacts on local habits and biodiversity, and what we can do to protect these species.

“Bruce Power is proud to celebrate Earth Week by raising awareness about our natural environment and sharing important information about how we can protect species at risk in our community and beyond,” said Lyndsay Reid, Director, Environment, Sustainability & Net Zero.

“Our site is home to a diverse natural environment that contains more than 500 species of plants and wildlife. The protection of these species and the habitats that support them is a priority for our environmental protection program.”

The virtual program will feature guest speakers Nancy Griffin, Conservation Education Coordinator, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority and Mike Schwindt, Development Manager, Bluewater Education Foundation – Outdoor Education Centre.

“The program connects to the Grade 6 Biodiversity strand of Ontario’s Science and Technology curriculum and will highlight how protecting and recovering species at risk and their habitat is a key part of conserving local biodiversity,” said Dan Genis, Education and Outreach Coordinator at the Bruce County Museum.

On Tuesday, April 18, both video presentations will be available for viewing at  https://www.brucemuseum.ca/education-centre/

Accompanying each video will be a downloadable challenge PDF for students and families to try either in the classroom or at home. These challenges will help students become environmental stewards and connect directly to the content of each species at risk presentation.
