Volunteers a key to Bruce County Museum’s success

The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) has many volunteers who commit their time in a variety of ways.

From assisting at events to tending bar, acting as dosuns and, in many other aspects, the volunteers are heavily relied on to lend a helping hand.

On Thursday, September 29th, the Museum honoured the volunteers for their service with a luncheon.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson attended the lunch saying that the Museum was a gem of Bruce County.

Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau also expressed that it would be hard to imagine the Museum without its volunteers.

Evan Vatri, Museum Program Coordinator, also recognized four volunteers for their dedication during the time of COVID and Museum restrictions. “I want to recognize our volunteer coordinator, Dwight Clarke, Brenda Vanderploeg, Muriel Shular and Tanya Gilchrist who all went above and beyond during COVID.”

Also thanked for his long service of volunteering, was Walt Heathers, who has logged more than 1,000 hours at the Museum.

Dwight Clarke, who has been Volunteer Coordinator for nine years, said, “Some of the richest people in the world are not millionaires but are people who volunteer. The feeling they get knowing that they have made a difference is the greatest gift.  Our volunteers and staff go the extra mile to make our visitors feel welcome and that this is a thriving culturally inclusive place for friends and family.  I want to thank each of you for your time and expertise as each of you brings something unique to the Museum and for that, we are truly grateful. “
