Walk around Fairy Lake ‘to make memories matter’

Spring is here and it’s time to get those sneakers out of winter hibernation and ‘walk to make memories matter’.

The Alzheimer’s Society of Grey-Bruce is again excited to be partnering with IG Wealth Management for its largest annual fundraiser!

The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s takes place Saturday, May 11th on the Fairy Lake Trail in Southampton.

The organization is excited that this outdoor format is returning for a second year. The event is a pledged walk fundraiser with no fundraising minimums or required walking distances. It’s about coming together, raising awareness, and supporting local people. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Fairy Lake pavilion, with the walk kicking off at 10:00 a.m, and closing remarks around 11:30 a.m.

Melanie Myers, is leading the way having taken on the role of Saugeen Shores Walk Coordinator. “Walking, nature and music are a perfect combination of ingredients that bring so much joy and comfort to our loved ones and families living with dementia, and are exactly what makes the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s so much fun. We can make a real difference for people living with dementia in our area. I joined the team for the second Saugeen Shores IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s at Fairy Lake to raise awareness and funds for our very important local chapter, The Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce.”

All funds raised through the event will support the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce in the work they do locally. Programs and services are available across Bruce and Grey for people living with dementia and their care partners.

The organization puts its feet on the ground in Saugeen Shores with home visits, specialized counseling services, attends Memory Clinics in partnership with local doctors, holds a monthly support group, runs the Minds in Motion program and offers training and education.

Events will be held simultaneously in Owen Sound, Hanover and the town of Blue Mountains. Last year, more than 400 people took part in Grey and Bruce raising more than $84,000. To register online, visit www.alzgiving.ca/SaugeenShores.
