100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce – Celebrate Landmark Donation to Support Housing and Mental Health

100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce have once again demonstrated the power of collective giving, announcing a landmark donation of $39,400 to the Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce (CMHAGB). The funding was raised at the group’s first meeting of 2026, held on March 28th.

The need for supportive housing in the region remains significant. In the past year alone, 375 people in Grey County and 109 households in Bruce County experienced homelessness. During that same time, CMHAGB supported 52 individuals in exiting homelessness and beginning to rebuild their lives through supportive housing.

This generous donation will make a tangible and lasting impact. A portion of the funds will be used to fully renovate an apartment currently in poor condition, transforming it into two safe, stable homes. These units will accommodate up to four individuals who are currently unhoused or precariously housed, helping reduce waitlists and providing a pathway toward stability, recovery, and a renewed sense of belonging.

The remaining funds will support the creation of Welcome Home Kits for individuals moving into secure housing. Too often, people arrive with little more than the clothes they own. These personalized kits will include essential items such as bedding, basic kitchenware, cleaning supplies, and lighting; simple but meaningful supports that restore dignity and ease the transition into a new home. Because a home is more than a roof overhead; it is a place to feel safe, settled, and respected.

CMHAGB’s Supportive Housing model goes beyond providing a place to live. With guidance from trained case workers, tenants learn to identify essential needs, manage their finances, and shop within their own communities. Programs are delivered across the region, including in Hanover, Owen Sound, Port Elgin, Walkerton, and Wiarton. Every dollar of this donation will go directly toward essential items and supports that help individuals move from surviving to thriving.

100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce continues to make a meaningful difference through a simple but powerful model of collective giving. Members gather four times a year, each contributing $100 at each meeting and voting to support a local organization. Together, their contributions create a significant and immediate impact.

Since its founding in 2013, the group has donated more than $500,000 to organizations across Grey and Bruce counties.

New members are always welcome to join and help expand this impact even further.
