Comicon – a fun escape experience from reality

The second annual Comicon that came to Southampton Coliseum proved to be as popular as ever as the line-up to enter began in the early morning and weaved its way around the entire building.

For those not familiar, Comicon is a comic book and fan convention with the emphasis on comic books and comic book culture and is, what appears to be, a definite brief escape from reality where sci-fi, superheroes, zombies and overall fantasy is the experience.

It’s also about the chance to dress up as your favourite hero or fantasy image.

The experience began outside the building where ‘Optimus Prime’ attracted all kinds of attention.

Built with legal permission from HASBRO, it was led by an ordinary father, Joe Fiduccia, who wanted to inspire his son and others that all dreams are possible with hard work and that he should always have the courage to rise up against any bullies in life who doubt him.” (Comicon website)

Inside, more than 120 vendors featured everything from action figures to original art, vintage toys to trading cards, retro and current video games to comics and jewellery, for those serious collectors to those visitors simply interested in taking it all in.

According to many of the fans, they are already looking forward to next year when Comicon 2026 returns and, for those, who have never been to a Comicon, it’s an experience.
