A Celebration of Life to remember a special woman – Sybil Josephine Mercer

It’s hard to compete in a description of someone who was a ‘firecracker’, who dedicated her life to helping others, who was a leader in the community, a founder mover-and-shaker for seniors, someone who loved sports and was passionate about curling, was a life-long rug hooker and generous with her time organizing ‘hookers’ across the country … the name of this remarkable woman?  Sybil Josephine Mercer of Southampton.

Sybil’s obituary says everything there is to say about this woman and, on June 6th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Southampton Chantry Seniors’ Centre, that she helped found and loved and was President of for many years, her life will be celebrated.

Her incredible fibre art creations will be on display along with some of her ‘infamous’ rug hookings and punch needle artwork for the month of June.

Editor’s personal note:  Sybil and I ‘got along like a house on fire’ with sparks flying. She was gracious and, although she ‘pretended’ not to like her photo taken, always posed for me.  She was a gem … and I miss her.
