The Saugeen Shores Men’s Shed has quickly gained momentum since its launch, with members gathering every Thursday at the Chantry Seniors Centre over the past six weeks.
What began as a simple idea has already grown into a thriving and welcoming group, with more than 100 individuals now included on our distribution mailing list.
Their weekly Thursday socials have become the cornerstone of the Shed, sparking not only great conversation but also the formation of several smaller interest groups. Members are now meeting regularly for activities such as woodworking and model building, with more groups forming as new ideas emerge.
“The Shed is also getting out into the community. Our first group field trip was on April 3rd to Three Sheets Brewing, offering members a chance to connect in a relaxed social setting outside regular meetings.”
True to the spirit of the Men’s Shed movement, members are already rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in meaningful projects. They have begun creating items for the community and supporting local not-for-profit organizations that may lack the workforce or facilities to complete needed projects.
“We are especially grateful for the strong partnerships that helped us get off the ground so quickly, including the Chantry Seniors Centre and the Southampton Propeller Club. Their support has been instrumental in our early success.”
Looking ahead, the future is very encouraging. Several committees are forming to guide the continued growth of the Shed, and plans are already underway for new activities and offshoot groups. Upcoming opportunities include cycling, hiking, golf outings, and a variety of guest speakers who will join Thursday socials.
The Saugeen Shores Men’s Shed is more than just a place to meet—it’s a place to connect, contribute, and build lasting friendships while giving back to the community
