It was a weekend filled with music of all genres across Saugeen Shores when the 29th Canadian Big Band Celebration began on Friday September 19th (2025).
Friday began with easy listening dinner music and continued throughout the night with the funky sounds of blues and jazz at a wide variety of venues.

Saturday was definitely a day to dance as the Lakeshore Recreation Centre hosted the ‘big band’ sounds of yesteryear and today. From the era of swing to today, the dance floor was never empty, proving that dancing is still as popular as it ever was.
Three bands played throughout the day and into the evening – The Lighthouse Swing Band from Kincardine, the Toronto All Star Big Band and Lulu’s band with the Men in Black Hornline. Each band has its own unique sound and style. The Toronto All Star Big Band is made up of students from 16 to 22 in high schools and universities who play swing music from the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
Lulu’s Band with Men in Black Hornline is an all-time favourite in Saugeen Shores.

Finally, on Sunday, it was time to take a trip to Europe when “Django & Beyond” brought its Gypsy Swing in the Spirit of the Quintette du Hot Club de France while diners enjoyed the Jazz Brunch served up by Tim and Sarah’s Catering at the Southampton Golf & Country Club.

Canadian Big Band Celebration weekend is a much-anticipated event every year and, next year 2026, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary.
