Letter to the Editor – Be specific with your hospital donation

To the Editor:

With this new branding of our health system in the area and the wonderful people who donate, it’s VERY important that the people who donate explicitly say that their donation is for “the Southampton site” as well, if they would like that donation to go to a specific area of the hospital ie.  Palliative of care, Emergency room, Lab. … MAKE SURE that’s stated as well or it will go into general funds of the hospital.

If you have already made plans in your will to do this, PLEASE update it to include that information or it will go into a slush fund for all the area hospitals.

The wonderful people of the Chesley area hospital found out this the hard way when they lost the most wonderful “Restorative Care” space at their hospital. .. it was a terrific space with dedicated staff and a wonderful program .. it’s now down to just a couple of beds.  They didn’t specify where they wanted their donations to go and wondered why this service was being taken away after some made rather large donations.

So the moral of the story is BE VERY SPECIFIC where YOU want your donations to go!
No offence to those who look after the monies as they do what they can and can only do what is needed unless told otherwise.
