More families will soon have the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Bruce County as the Ontario government opens 17 new campsites at MacGregor Point Provincial Park ahead of the busy summer camping season.
The new campsites are part of a province-wide expansion that will add 67 campsites across Ontario Parks, helping meet growing demand for outdoor recreation and creating more opportunities for visitors to enjoy Ontario’s world-class provincial parks.
Located along the shores of Lake Huron near Port Elgin, MacGregor Point Provincial Park is one of the region’s most popular tourism destinations. Known for its stunning shoreline, diverse wildlife, extensive trail network and family-friendly camping experiences, the park welcomes visitors each year from across Ontario and beyond. The additional campsites will increase capacity at MacGregor Point Provincial Park during peak summer months, helping address strong demand for camping opportunities while supporting local economic activity generated by tourism.
“The addition of new campsites at MacGregor Point Provincial Park is great news for the Town of Saugeen Shores and the County of Bruce for families looking to enjoy Ontario’s beautiful outdoors,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce. “This investment will expand access to camping, support local tourism and help more people experience one of our region’s most treasured destinations.”
“Camping is at the heart of summer for so many families, and the fun and excitement of Ontario Parks camping experience is second-to-none,” added Todd McCarthy, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. “By opening new sites and upgrading existing ones, we’re making it possible for even more people to create memorable experiences at our incredible provincial parks, with important knock-on benefits for the surrounding communities, like job creation and increased tourism.”
Across the province, Ontario is opening 67 new campsites at MacGregor Point, Killarney and Driftwood provincial parks. The projects are part of Ontario Parks’ broader campsite expansion and modernization efforts designed to improve visitor experiences and increase access to outdoor recreation.
The opening of these 67 sites marks the first phase of a nearly $60 million, multi-year investment to expand and modernize camping infrastructure at Ontario Parks. Collectively, these new sites will add 4,891 reservable camping nights between June 26 and Labour Day, increasing opportunities for Ontario families to enjoy the outdoors this summer
Reservations for the new campsites will open on June 15, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. ET, with arrival dates beginning June 26, 2026.
Over the life of the investment, Ontario Parks will create approximately 300 new campsites and electrify 800 existing sites, representing the largest campground expansion in more than 50 years.
Since 2018, the province has invested more than $161 million in infrastructure upgrades across Ontario Parks. With 13.7 million visits in 2025, Ontario Parks is the largest provider of outdoor recreational opportunities in the province and park visitors play a key role in Ontario’s tourism economy, generating spin-off benefits for nearby communities through local dining, shopping and attractions.
