Despite a torrent of rain to begin the day, Mother Nature cooperated as almost 1,000 runners and walkers, who registered for the 37th annual Rotary Huron Shores 2026 Run fundraiser held in Southampton (Saugeen Shores) on June 6th, began their distance of choice.
Participants of all ages came from across Ontario and some from the United States to take part in what has become a favourite for runners and walkers of all ages.

Not only is it a fun community event but is one that promotes active living, inspires the community to get involved, and raises money for local non-profit organizations such as the local Saugeen Memorial Hospital, Saugeen Track & Field Club and local Rotary Clubs. Participants were encouraged to raise funds through pledges and, as yet, a final total has not been determined.
There were new courses and routes this year for every level of runners and walkers – 5k 10k and 15k run (one of the fastest growing race distances in North America).
Also new in 2026 was the Green Bib project. Adults who registered had the choice of selecting a Green Bib allowing those participants to forgo the race t-shirt and/or a finisher’s medal. For those who chose the Green Bib, a $10 donation was made on their behalf to a sustainability project led by the Town of Saugeen Shores. Choosing the Green Bib helped reduce materials used for the event minimizing the environmental impact.
As participants rounded the corner on their return, Special Olympic athletes with their coach, Cheryl Smethurst, were on hand to cheer on the runners as they headed for the Finish line.
