Hundreds of elementary students and their teachers from across the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) had the opportunity to attend an Indigenous Pow Wow on Friday, June 12th (2026).

Tents ringed the dance arena as several organizations, such as the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre and Fanshawe Collage, also attended the event that was held adjacent to the SFN Administration building.

Among the activities the students had the chance to participate in were traditional dances and beading.
Each year, Saugeen First Nation (SFN) hosts a Pow Wow in June, Indigenous History Month, specifically for students across the region to learn about and enjoy the Indigenous cultural experience.
Then, in August (8th & 9th), the annual Pow Wow for the general public is held at the James Mason Recreation Centre at Saugeen First Nation. Over the two days, visitors can enjoy competitive dancing, traditional drumming, arts and crafts and authentic Indigenous cuisine. Dancers wearing spectacular regalia come from across Canada and the U.S. to compete in a wide variety of dances.
