Gran Fondo Lake Huron 2026 surpasses fundraising goal

The Gran Fondo Lake Huron 2026 was, without a doubt, a resounding success. Last year’s event raised $430,000 and, so this year, there was a lofty goal of $500,000.

Not only was the goal reached, it was surpassed raising to date … $516,974.80!

“Gran Fondo is ultimately about people coming together,” said Tracy Murray, Executive Director of the Hospital Foundation.  “It brought more than 800 riders, an incredible team of volunteers, generous sponsors, thousands of donors and an entire community together. To everyone who played a part, thank you. What we accomplished together will make a difference for patients and families across our region.”

Once the cycling part of the Gran Fondo was over, it was off to the Coliseum for lunch and award recognitions.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau

Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau welcomed everyone saying that, if it weren’t for fundraisers like the Gran Fondo there would be no local hospital.  “It’s people like you who come out every year to ride and raise money.  Also, to the Hospital Foundation that runs events like this in the community to make it a better place … and to all the incredible health care workers who work in our hospital and throughout our health care system.  It’s hard work and tough work and they deliver quality health care every day to our community.”

On behalf of the Gran Fondo major sponsor, Bruce Power, CEO & President Eric Chassard also welcomed everyone and handed out the awards of recognition. “This has been a fantastic day and Bruce Power is proud to be part of it, along with our suppliers.  Our Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement program on Unit 3 is now seven months ahead of schedule and, with Bruce ‘C planned for four more units, it will mean reliable power for a hundred years.”

For some, riding in the Gran Fondo was all about remembering the loss of a loved one.

Next year, 2027, will mark the 10 anniversary of the Gran Fondo. Tracy Murray of the Foundation said, “It’s going to be a huge celebration and we are already looking forward to it.”
