At the first all-candidates meeting held on August 31st in Southampton (Saugeen Shores), incumbent Mayor Luke Charbonneau laid out his platform and the accomplishments that have been achieved.
“This is a remarkable community and we have a lot to be proud of. Over the past several years, we have made real progress. We built a new aquatic and wellness centre, Lamont Sports Park, invested in roads and parks and invested in services across our community and developed a 10-year plan to build for the future while getting the most for every taxpayer dollar.
That progress took planning, persistence and experienced leadership. I believe Saugeen Shores is entering one of the most consequential periods in our history. The decisions made over the next four years will shape our community for decades to come. We have a plan for what comes next such as building a new library and updating the Town Hall in Southampton, planting 10,000 trees, introducing green organic waste collection and building 200 new affordable homes.
We also have a once in a generation development of nuclear with the potential to bring investment, good jobs and opportunities for our children and grandchildren. We spent years developing our planning and building relationships for our community and what’s ahead. Now, we need the stability of experienced leadership to carry that work forward. The foundation is in place, the opportunities are in front of us and the next four years are about turning that preparation into results.
I know this community. I know what needs to be done and I know how to bring people together to get things done. I am asking for your vote so we can keep Saugeen Shores moving forward and build an even stronger community for generations to come.
