In today’s world, it isn’t often that a patient and doctor have a 40 year relationship, but that is what Dorothy Bryce-Rae of Port Elgin and her Dr. Don McCulloch have had.
According to Dorothy, it has been even longer than that. “Our families were neighbours in the country when Don was born. I knew him when he was a little boy. So, when he became a doctor and returned to the community, I became his patient.”

When Dr. McCulloch retired in 2019, hundreds of his 1,700 former patients attended his retirement celebration.
Unbeknownst to everyone however, was that COVID-19 would strike. The result was that Dr. McCulloch quickly came out retirement to offer his services in retirement and nursing homes.

To recognize his long-time and continuing service, Dorothy Rae contacted Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson to recognize Dr. McCulloch’s service.
Thompson issued a certificate that was presented to Dr. McCulloch on Thursday, September 3, 2020.
“I am completely amazed by this,” said Dr. McCulloch. “I don’t even know what to say. This is wonderful.”
