A sad unintended consequence says reader

To the Editor:
As a relatively new resident of Southampton, my wife and I thoroughly enjoy exploring the beautiful Saugeen Rail Trail system.
We were surprised this morning, to see sheets of plywood on the Mill-creek bridge to (we assume) allow ATV’s and/or snowmobiles to travel the bridge.
This note is to suggest in allowing this new access, you’ve effectively prohibited seniors or persons with mobility issues from crossing the bridge safely. This morning we almost fell because the plywood was covered in ice. The risk of injury is further compounded because many if not most of the plywood sheets have bowed giving one the sensation of bouncing along on the bridge.
All that to say, we won’t be travelling this portion of the rail trail due to its dramatically increased risk of injury.
Very sad…
Unintended consequences.
