“‘Art and Soul’ reminds us that creativity is an essential part of our community,” said Bruce County Warden and Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau.
Charbonneau was referring to the recent exhibit by artist Bev Morgan at the opening held on Saturday, September 13th at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
Morgan, a Hanover-based artist and teacher, works with watercolours and Batik to create original unique art depicting scenes from her global travels. The technique blends traditional watercolour techniques with the intricate art of melted wax on paper.
“Bev’s art is the affect of light,” said Museum Executive Director, Cathy McGirr. “Light can make even the most humble subject beautiful. She hopes that anyone who views her work can experience the excitement and vision she has while creating them. She is a full time artist and teaches workshops in a range of venues including the Southampton Art School.”

Morgan, a former medical lab techologist who retired in 2015, began pursuing her art in earnet under the tutelage of artist Lin Souliere, but says that she is “mostly self-taught”.
In explaining her technique Morgan said that she “…likes to always challenge myself to do
something a little bit different.”
Her prolific exhibit features themes such as lighthouses, bridges, scenes from France and more.
Morgan and five others founded the group the Saugeen Artists that now has more than 35 members and has been associated with the Southampton Arts Centre/School since 2011 and the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2018. She also teaches in person on cruise lines, and online at Udemy.com for over 8500 students globally.

‘Art and Soul’ exhibit remains at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre until the end of December.
