Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre honours WWII 80th anniversary

In honour of the 80th anniversary of WWII, the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre unveiled a new finely detailed diorama depicting the major ways that Canada contributed to the War effort.

Sponsored by the Bruce County Royal Canadian Legions and Veterans Affairs Canada, the exhibit, created by Mat Johnson, with assistance from his father Gary, showcases Canada’s participation by land, air, and sea from both civilian and military perspectives, and highlights the significance of Canada becoming the ‘aerodrome of democracy.’

The actual unveiling was performed by Executive members of the Southampton, Port Elgin and Kincardine Legion branches.

The new diorama joins the ‘Bruce Remembers’ exhibit of WWI where visitors can walk through a simulated trench with the sounds and smells of the war.  Both the WWII and WWI exhibits are interactive historic scenes of the wars.

In recognition of the 80th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid, Mat Johnson returns to the Museum in the Bruce Power Theatre for an interview and discussion with legendary Canadian author Mark Zuehlke about the events of August 19, 1942 – Dieppe: Heroism Amidst the Horror.
